Since its establishment in 1989, Gryphon has undertaken investigations in over 100 countries, and developed deep regional expertise and language capabilities. Gryphon opened a London office in 2018 to serve its growing Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) client base and add strength and depth to its emerging and frontier market operational expertise.
Now, Gryphon announces the formation of four regional teams to provide market-leading insight across all service offerings to clients operating in these jurisdictions. The teams bring together members of our business intelligence, due diligence, litigation support and strategic advisory practice groups.
The MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa team is led by Victoria Mackay, based in London. A former British diplomat, Victoria has more than a decade of operational experience in the region. Victoria consults on due diligence, political risk, litigation and other complex investigation assignments. Gryphon’s MENA/Africa team comprises fluent Arabic, Hebrew, Amharic and French speakers.
The Asia team is led by Matt Hays, a Southeast Asian expert. Prior to joining Gryphon, Matt spent four years in Bangkok, Thailand advising political parties and elected leaders throughout the region on messaging and communication strategies for an international NGO. Gryphon’s Asia team includes native speakers of Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu, Tamil and Punjabi.
The Latin America team is led by Laura Molloy, who has conducted complex assignments throughout Latin America. Prior to joining Gryphon, Laura led a team designing and implementing education programs in challenging political environments for an international NGO. The team, which speaks the relevant languages, has extensive experience conducting public record and human intelligence investigations and asset searches in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.
The Europe/Russia and Central Asian team is co-managed by Victoria Mackay and Peter Sowinski. The team comprises fluent Russian, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and German speakers and specializes in: pre-transaction due diligence investigations; strategic intelligence gathering to inform clients’ investment strategies; and gathering evidence, including the identification of assets, in support of clients engaged in complex litigation.
Over thirty years of operations, Gryphon has developed and maintained a diverse network of contacts on the ground in each of these jurisdictions to complement our in-house expertise. These sources span a vast range of professions and sectors and are well-placed to provide discreet and valuable intelligence on our clients’ investment targets, to inform their strategic decision making and meet compliance requirements in challenging and opaque markets.
